Custom colors for Social Icons in footer?

What do I need to add to get the social icons in the footer to have their own color?

This does not seem to work:

.social .fa fa-twitch:hover {
color: #7250ae ;
}

or

.fa fa-twitch:hover {
color: #7250ae ;
}
