Cannot create new pages – error 404

Hi there

I am running a webserver on Ubuntu/Apache, WordPress installed fine, I applied your nice theme etc, then realized that whenever I go to create a new page, it is created in the page list but simply shows “404 not found” when I try to go to it.

The front page and all the admin pages seem to be working fine, its just anything new or outside of front/admin that show 404 not found.

I read a few tips about changing the permalinks and going back to the one I want, this didnt resolve the issue either. The permalink I am using is http://x.x.x.x/sample-post/
