Updating Theme

Is it ok to update just the modified files which are mentioned on arcane website instead of whole arcan directory.

Also I have tried to put modified tmp_tournament_single.php and wp-teamwars.php with correct directory structure but the changes do not apply as if the child theme files are not being used by the wordpress instead original files are still being executed.
