“No Comments” Shown in place of comment number

    On the sample website, the proper number is shown for the number of comments on posts.

    However, when I install the theme on WordPress, instead of the correct number the theme simply shows “No comments” in the comment bubble. It looks like this:
    This issue persists when there are actual comments on the posts.
    How can I fix this? Is the ‘comments_popup_link’ getting overridden somewhere?
