How to add posts to a custom main page

I’m wondering and having trouble on how to add posts to the main page when it’s been set to a custom page. I want it to look like the preview with the “Latest Updates” part under the parallax blocks. Right now I have recent posts but it doesn’t show a img nor do I like how the format is. I want it to show the image and have the MOST recent one with some text and the lesser recent ones with just the image and date and how many comments.
