Adding widgetize area in project page

Hello,

I am looking to add widgets on the sidebar or below the post in the project page. Is there a way to widgetize those areas? Because I tried adding the “sidebar php codes” to function.php and side.php, but the project page just keep showing errors. Am I doing something wrong? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
