how to properly set sidebar everywhere

Hi, I want to add sidebar on NY home/front page but I am little confused. I read documentation and I understand that the sidebar need to appear itself when set a page to homepage template and then in reading options from WordPress set to static page and select this created home page. OK but I have no sidebar. It appears when I add it from add element from visual composer. That’s the right way ? If I make it this way I still have no sidebar in normal blog view/ normal category post listing, but I have sidebar in article view. I want simply to add one sidebar in entyre site, how I suppose to do that right ?
