Is BuddyPress useful for my needs?

    Hi all,

    I’m building with WordPress (with the theme Oblivion) the site for a sport club.
    There are many restricted areas, only for registered users (forum, file uploader and other pages) and free areas for the visitors.
    I’m using bbPress as a forum, but I need to add a plugin for private messages.
    Surfing on the web I’ve read about “BuddyPress”. Is BuddyPress useful for my needs?
