Need to speed up load times

My website has a rank of about 29/100 on Google page insights. One of the bigger issues is that it says I have too many render blocking elements.

The exact message is: PSI estimates this page requires 7 render-blocking round trips and ~24 resources (3.1MB) to load. The median page requires 4 render-blocking round trips and ~89 resources (1.3MB) to load. Fewer round trips and bytes results in faster pages.

What can I change in my theme to keep the awesome elements but prevent it from loading in the beginning to slow down the load time?
