Show excerpt on widget

Hello,

i am using the SW Latest posts widget on my site. I would like for it to display the excerpt as well as the title and who posted it.
I’ve looked around and most articles say to replace <?php the_content;?> but i do not see that line anywhere in the pages when i go into theme editor.

What can i edit to allow this?
