Slider Speed Not Adjustable and not respeccting js/jquery.bxslider.min.js

I have edited the slider speed to slow it down from 4 seconds (4000) to 8 seconds (8000) in the js/jquery.bxslider.min.js file.

This setting has no effect in firefox nor in chrome. In fact in chrome the updated value in the file is flat out ignored if you look at it in the debugger and still reads 4000, while in chrome even with a setting of 100000, the slides still rotate at a frequency of 4 seconds (4000) even though the debugger reflects the updated setting of 100,000 I can provide screenshots if needed for this.
