Buddypress forcing a widget column

tonight i tried to install the buddypress plugin since i liked the option to have a shared profile page for my clan members.

i’m facing an odd problem. this is how a standard page looks like without the plugin installed:

this is weird.. it seems like the plug in forces the buddypress widget sidebar in every page, no matter if the sidebar is populated with or without wigets
