Can anyone offer input Re: ‘blog page templates’?

Seeking to learn here… I got hung up upon reading this article via WP:

Tl;dr – I could use assistance in understanding how/when/why to implement one of the Arcane custom page templates offered, eg ‘blog – right sidebar’, ‘blog – isotope’, etc., after reading this article which alleges ‘if you properly set up your static home page then WP cannot use any custom page templates for blogs because it messes up proper indexing of posts etc…’

Given my site implements a static front page, does this mean that I simply just don’t use/need to use the Arcane Blog page templates?

Clarification would be awesome, thx!

Until then, I’m assuming that the only reason one would/should use your page templates for blogs is in scenarios for when a static front page is not desired(?)…
