Theme activation causes HTTP 500 error

First of all I have a brand new install of a LAMP on CentOS 7, with fresh WP + bbPress forum.

When I try to upload the arcane.zip file to the themes I get an error “Are you sure you want to do this?” and a Try again link which takes me back to the theme install page.

I’ve uploaded the arcane.zip file to the wp-content/themes folder and unzipped. Chown’s to the apache user/group recursively. I activate the theme and it bricks the site unless I go back into the terminal and delete the arcane/ folder so it will default back to the stock theme.

Whatcha need from me?
